Journal #1 I Am The Messenger

In "I am the Messenger" Ed Kennedy is a young cab driver with nothing accomplished in life and has nothing that he wants to accomplish. He receives an ace of diamonds in the mail after being the hero of a local bank robbery. On the ace were three street addresses and three times. The ace helps him to accomplish something with his life.

As Ed is sitting on a porch across the street from one of the addresses, a big, drunk man comes stumbling down over the street. He enters the house that Ed has been assigned to watch. Ed describes his feelings that he felt as he was sitting on the porch. "My heart begins to suffocate me. It keeps rising until I can taste it." "The moon escapes from the clouds, and I suddenly feel naked. Like the world can see me. The street is numb and silent but for the giant man who's stumbled home and talks forcefully to his wife."

I can personally connect to Ed's situation. I have walked down a dark, empty street on a clear night. When I looked up into the sky I saw thousands of stars and a big, bright moon that gives both the dark street and me a hint of light. Being the only one on the street you feel like every one on earth is watching you but yet you cant see anyone. You feel as if you were glowing in the darkness, as if you were being followed, but you look behind you to find no one. The feeling of my heart beating, it feels like it is about to explode. In conclusion to how Ed felt on the dark street. I know how he felt from personally experiencing it.
